Review

“Moving, fanciful, and gorgeously strange.” —People “One of the year’s highlights. Intense and compelling.” —The Oregonian “Marvelous. . . . Few writers are as adept as Bender at mingling magical elements so seamlessly with the ordinary.” —San Francisco Chronicle  “A richly imagined, bittersweet tale.” —Vanity Fair  “Convincing and elegant. . . . A novel with a deeply involving plot, one full of provocative ideas.” —The Boston Globe  “Extraordinary. . . . Not just a deeply felt novel but one of the most inventive pieces of food writing in recent memory.” —Time Out New York “Profound and eye-opening. . . . You feel—that rare and beautiful gift from a truly great book—woken up and unalone.” —The Globe and Mail (Toronto) “Rose is an irresistible narrator: warm, witty and sharply observant. . . . Exuberant, life-affirming.” —The Miami Herald “Oddly beautiful. . . . Will tempt you to see what talented writers can do when they rip little tears in the fabric of reality.” —The Washington Post  “The fairy-tale elements in her writing, far from seeming outlandish, highlight the everyday nature of her characters’ flaws and struggles. In Ms. Bender’s stories and novels, relationships and mundane activities take on mythic qualities.” —The Wall Street Journal “Charming and wistful. . . .  [Rose] studies her world with the thoroughness of a scientist but records her observations with the eye and ear of a poet.” —The Atlantic  “The fabulist elements of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake are stunning, but what makes this novel a keeper is the sheer beauty of the language Bender uses to describe love.”  —NPR, “Books We Like” “[The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake] has the narrative momentum and clockwork plotting of any good mystery, but its bleak whimsy and clear-eyed rendering of domestic sorrow are Bender’s own. . . .  Splendid.” —The Plain Dealer  “Rose comes of age while unraveling family secrets as strangely lucid as they are nightmarish. At its core . . . The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake encourages us all to make the most of our unique gifts while still finding a way to live in the so-called real world.” —O, The Oprah Magazine  “A dreamy novel. . . . This is one of the most pleasant books we’ve read all year.” —The New York Observer  “Deftly written. . . . There is a . . . sweetness to the book that turns it into something out of the ordinary.” —St. Louis Post-Dispatch “Bender is the master of quiet hysteria. . . . She builds pressure sentence by sentence. . . . A little hiss of steam comes off the novel.” —Los Angeles Times “A very special book.” —The Anniston Star  “Bender doesn’t write of ordinary people. She writes of magical creations, the things of fairy tales gone awry. . . . Part magic, part clean prose.” —Denver Post  “If you’ve ever wondered why people have such a hard time looking in strangers’ eyes as they walk down the street, this book, hard as it may be to face, is for you.” —LA Weekly  “There’s an evocative power in Bender’s work that lingers with a reader.” —The Christian Science Monitor  “[Bender] produce[s] stories that make one grateful for being ordinary.” —The Seattle Times  “[A] gentle, kindhearted novel. There’s a wistful quality to the almost fable-like tale that’s captured with near perfection in her understated prose. As in all fine novels, the Edelsteins’ story, in Aimee Bender’s telling, is one that reflects our own world back to us in a fresh and revealing way.” —Bookreporter.com  “The ultimate fact is that The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake is probably the strangest book you’ll never want to put down.” —Pittsburgh Tribune “Aimee Bender creates a lilting, economical and finally tragic portrait of what it means to be a child in her exquisite new novel.” —Chicago Tribune “Lemon Cake perfectly embodies Bender’s knack for simultaneously appealing to imagination, emotion, and intellect, combining an out-of-this-world premise with very much in-this-world characters.” —Portland Mercury “Aimee Bender is also something of a sorceress who charges her stories with pure magic, and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake is an example of what she does best.” —Jewish Journal

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake is like a sustained dream - at times normal-feeling, then a little odd, then very unsettling, intriguing. And also like a dream, Lemon Cake ends with some of the most intriguing questions raised by Aimee Bender ultimately unanswered; the reader sees a little light, a few, small things become a bit clearer, and then the dream is over, and the reader is lifted out of it, left with a fascination for the dream world and, most of all, the emotional residue.I think that's my favorite aspect of this book - the emotional effects that Bender's writing produced. Much like Rose discovers that she can use the medium of taste to feel emotions in a strange, unresolved way, Bender's language and imagery accomplished this same transaction through the medium of words. I think my favorite moment of the novel was Rose's discovery of her brother Joseph, sitting in his apartment, quiet, alone, in the midst of a literal disappearing act - the leg of a chair strangely substituted for his own leg. I felt something funny in my stomach that must have been akin to what Rose felt, seeing a chair leg sitting inside of her brother's shoe - uneasiness, fear, confusion, a sense of something very wrong unfolding, but more than anything else, pure captivation. The novel also serves as a sort of coming-of-age story, following Rose from the day she first discovers her ability throughout the remainder of her education, and into her post-academic life. These parts of the story are remarkably human, in the context of the oddities that Bender litters throughout the text: Rose struggles to understand why her parents' marriage is disintegrating, she navigates her way through friendships that begin to fail as high school comes to an end, she tries to manage a long-standing crush on her brother's best friend but ends up fooling around with a jock who means nothing to her instead. And Bender also gives the reader a sense of family history, which gives even greater depth to the world of the novel.Lemon Cake is a great piece of magical realism, as is the collection of Bender's short stories which I've also read, Willful Creatures. It's certainly not for everyone, and Bender's refusal to answer what are perhaps the most captivating questions she raises - the questions of magical realism - will leave some readers frustrated and unsatisfied. But if you feel like taking a trip into a bizarre story world for a little while, and if you can accept from the outset that, like a dream, the pieces aren't always going to fit together or be properly explained to you, then I definitely recommend The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.

Such a lovely, lyrical book. The emotions hover around the edges waiting to unfold. We see only glimpses of the interior lives of the characters, but enough to know they are like us: more hidden than revealed. The narration flows like a story should, we see moments in time without intervening detail. We recognize that most days aren't eventful. There is magic here, but an almost ordinary magic. Tasting feeling in food. It could happen, you could get used to it, adjust to it. The strangeness at the end of the book (no spoiler alert, just know it is strange) seems too much, too sudden, too abrupt. And then the book ends. I understand the author is a short story writer. They don't specialize in endings. This book just ends. I was left feeling like someone had slammed the brakes. But I still recommend it. Just live with the ending. The rest is worth it.

The Peculiar Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender was book of the month for my book group. This is not a book that I would have picked up otherwise. Still, I have often said that one good reason for joining a book group is to read out of my comfort zone. The Peculiar Sadness of Lemon Cake was certainly out of my comfort zone!I had never heard of the author prior to reading her book. Aimee Bender was born and raised in Santa Monica, California, USA. She received a bachelor’s degree in theater from the University of California, San Diego, in 1991 and studied for her Masters Degree in fine arts program at the University of California, Irvine. Bender is acclaimed as a unique writer of her time. Her wordplay and use of metaphors set her apart from her peers. There is no doubt she is a clever woman. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake was a very unusual story. Rose Edelstein, on the eve of her ninth birthday, discovers that she can taste the emotions of her mother in the homemade lemon-chocolate birthday cake she made. All at once Rose's cheerful, can-do mother tastes of despair and desperation. Suddenly, and for the rest of her life, food becomes perilous. Anything can be revealed at any meal. Eating becomes frightening for Rose. This is a strange household with Rose's brother disappearing and reappearing as well as almost absent parents. The Particular Sadness Of Lemon Cake was a story that presented a very interesting premise and the relationships between Rose, George and her brother were interesting. Also, the mystery surrounding the protagonist's brother kept me reading even when story dragged and the writing style grated on my nerves. I think punctuation and quotation marks are important because they help me sort out the type of prose I am reading. This author does not seem to consider that to be important. This story is very hard to describe but I read it straight through. Largely, to get to the end of it and get rid of it. This was not a book I enjoyed, nor could I recommend it. I will not seek out any further novels by Aimee Bender.

“It is a subtle and calm feeling of happiness. A happiness that does not yell at you or is overwhelming but happiness that is rising from a place of satisfaction.”Face it, we all want balance in our lives. We all want peace, calmness – serenity. But face it, without change, it can’t be accomplished, but where do we begin? Maya teaches us how the Swedish lifestyle is “lagom” or achieving balance in one’s own life. What an amazing book! I’ve tried the Zen books; I’ve tried the yoga books, all the other “life balance” books nevertheless none have inspired me as much as this one. Maya has a simple, easy writing style that creates peace in just slowing down and reading her book. She covers different areas of life from eating (check out the amazing recipes!), how to declutter our homes, balance in downtown, family and work to even becoming a better shopper and living a more healthy, environmental lifestyle. As an introvert, I found this was the first book that didn’t tell me I had to be more social to gain balance, so yes excellent for introverts and extroverts. The Swedish seem to have the answers and Maya is exceptional in teaching us how to achieve balance the lagom way. I highly recommend this manual for anyone desiring the true balance of peace in his or her life.

i was born and raised in sweden, but my destiny took me to the other side of the world where i acquired a different culture. i am so glad i read this book.which refreshed my true swedish personality. the only negative i found was that there is no contact informnation about maya thoresen, nor a publisher.

I read this book with the intent of figuring out what Lagom is and learned so much more. Not only is the book informative about the history of the term and how people of Swedish culture use it, but also about balancing daily life in ways that are manageable. Busy individuals and individuals with all the time in the world can find something similar and specific to them in this read. I'm definitely going to use the recipes and activities and try to integrate them little by little into my day and I hope everyone takes the time for themselves and with a good book like this one.

I have been introduced to the life style of Hygge by a friend who is from Denmark. Since my ancestors came from Norway where Hygge began there centuries ago, I wanted to learn more about this concept.

This book lacks substance. The chapters are only a few pages each.

Just got the book today and I'm already halfway through reading it. It's been an interesting read so far and I like the advice to finding balance in every day life. However, the book is only like 50 pages long. Personally, I think it's a bit overpriced for what you get.

‘Living Lagom – A Swedish Guide to a Balanced Life’ is the latest release from USA-based Scandinavian lifestyle coach, Maya Thoresen. She takes the concept of lagom and suggests ways of applying it to every aspect of our lives. The cheerful cover is eye-catching and clearly represents the contents of the book. The reader has an idea of what to expect before they turn the page. The first few chapters are taken up with trying to define ‘lagom’ from its origins in etymology to current usage. It basically appears to mean not too much or too little but just the right amount. This will be different for each individual so it is a subjective, slightly abstract hypothesis and open to interpretation but the idea is to live a balanced, contented life in equilibrium and harmony with our surroundings and others. The author then sets about helping us to look at ways of achieving this. This was an easy book to read and I was delighted to find that without realising it, I am already living lagom in most areas of my life. I love a list, recycle regularly, have never had a problem decluttering my house or pruning my wardrobe, buy local produce and eat leftovers for lunch. I did like the suggestion regarding impulse buying and will definitely be putting that into practice from now on.When I looked for this book via an internet search, I found several on a similar theme by a variety of authors, so there is clearly a lot of competition in this area. It is quite short at 55 pages and there are some nice touches, including Swedish recipes and a 21-Day challenge at the end. It is always interesting to gain insight into the way of life in different countries.Conversely, I am left wondering slightly if this really breaks any new ground or if it is just another de-stressing, life-coaching book? It will be for other readers to decide if they think I am being cynical. If you like motivational self-help books, there is no reason why you would not enjoy this; it is well written and would make a nice stocking-filler at Christmas. I award ‘Living Lagom’ a very competent three-and-a-half stars.Book Reviewed on Whispering Stories Blog*I received a free copy of this book, which I voluntarily reviewed

I knew nothing of Lagom before listening to this audiobook - what a treat!I tend to be gluttonous on occasion, and I learned more about and useful tips for living more "in moderation" and "minimally" - I really need that! A lot of the time you want things, but you don't really need things. I am excited to learn more about this! Now that I'm (almost) 51, this is something I really need to practice and use in my life. I think this audiobook was informative, and enjoyable to listen to. Both author and narrator did a great job.FIND BALANCE!Loved it :)I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Please take a moment to click the "YES" ("Helpful") button below if you found this review helpful :) Thank you!

If you're interested in this, you are probably a political science or international relations student, which is a shame because very few general readers would pick this up, and it's those who need it the most, this really deserves to be a best-seller. I majored in biochemistry and am an indie game developer, never took a single class in political science, but on a friend's recommendation who was majoring in that I read this book, and I've re-read it several times over the years, and it's become one of my favorite books (certainly in my top 10 of nonfiction).Basically, this book presents an overarching theory of why wars exist, one that is precise enough to allow even uninformed readers to make predictable, and historically accurate, and precise predictions about when a country will go to war (and why). Most people believe wars to happen for one of several reasons -- "human nature" (because humans just like fighting and are inherently violent or stupid or something), or perhaps the war over religion and ideology, or perhaps over resources. I'd guess that almost everyone believes war happens for one of those reasons. This book dispels that notion very cleanly and completely. After you read it, you'll realize that nations go to war simply because they are afraid. They know that if they lose a war against a greater power, their nation is done for -- it will become occupied, or a puppet state, of a greater power, and lose whatever power they had. Nations do not want that to happen, they are terrified of being dominated by greater nations. And this is a systematic thing, no individual might consciously decide on this, but this is how all nations do seem to work: they are afraid of being conquered, so they go to war to make sure they are the one who conquer, not the one being conquered. This central notion that fear of being conquered by another nation, and not anything else, drives almost all war is the main thesis of the book, and it's argued for very convincingly, with a lot of historical examples. So, the first way a country can be certain it's not going to be conquered by its neighbors is to become the strongest power in its major landmass -- the regional hegemon. Most nations in a position to do so will try to gain regional power -- that is what China is doing in asia, that's what the US did the Americas, and that's what various european countries (e.g. England, France, the Dutch, the Germans, the Russians) have attempted to do for europe, and so on.By this thesis, it may seem counter-intuitive, but according to this idea, the reason Germany went to war was not because they were nationalistic or inherently violent, or because of the ideological differences between fascism, capitalism, and communism, or because wanted to purify Europe of undesirable races, or even that they were angry over the conditions imposed on them after WW1 (though that's part of it), but simply because Germany feared being conquered and wanted to become the most powerful nation in Europe to make sure they would survive. This is a *very* different understanding of war than most people have, I want to emphasize that again. And it sounds strange at first, but this book will probably convince you of it (as evidence, Germany in WW1 had a very different ideology, but the conditions were somewhat similar, and they still went to war, for the same reason they did go to war in WW2. Sometimes WW1 is blamed on entangling alliances or the assassination of an archduke, but, in reality, according to this theory, Germany went to war in WW1 for the exact same reason they want to war in WW2, because they saw an opportunity to become local hegemon of Europe, and took that opportunity). If you still aren't convinced, that isn't of course the job of this review, it's the job of the book; the number of examples used in the book far exceed would I could bring up here. And the author's writing is much better than mine in any case. I'm just trying to explain why I like the book: because it gives you a different opinion of war than the usual one, and does so very convincingly, through factual argument, and explains it in a simple to understand way (you don't need to have even taken a political science course to follow along with the argument).

The Tragedy of Great Power Politics is an accessible history of great power behavior since the 18th century. John Mearsheimer is a professor at the University of Chicago. Mearsheimer believes that once countries become economically strong they seek to dominate their region militarily. They “are always searching for opportunities to gain power over their rivals, with hegemony as their final goal.” He calls this “offensive realism.” In the final chapter, he discusses the rise of China and predicts that it will attempt to dominate Asia. He believes that this will lead to conflict with the US.To prove his theory, Mearsheimer examines the behavior of five countries over the last 200 years: Japan (1868-1945), Germany (1862-1945), Soviet Union (1917-1991), Britain (1792-1945), and the U.S. (1800-1990). Japan and the Soviet Union provide strong support for the theory. Before WW2 Japan was imperialistic and invaded Korea, China, and the Soviet Union. Its attempts to become an Asian hegemon inevitably led to its clash with the U.S. Russia has always been an imperialistic power and over the centuries expanded its empire from Europe to the Pacific coast. During the Soviet era, it grabbed Eastern Europe.Germany is an example of how offensive realism can lead to disaster. After reunification in 1871, Germany started to flex its muscles and frighten its neighbors. By 1900 it had overtaken Britain to become Europe's largest economy. Russia, France, and Britain initially formed a defensive alliance, but this did not deter Germany, it just became more paranoid. Mearsheimer argues that it was inevitable that a powerful Germany would try to dominate Europe. However, historians like Margaret MacMillan believe that war could have been avoided had Bismarck still been around. Unfortunately for Germany, Japan, and the Soviet Union, they were not allowed to dominate for long. They became victims of their own ambition and this seems to be the main weakness of offensive realism as a survival strategy.Britain is not a good fit for Mearsheimer's theory. It was never interested in dominating Europe. It controlled 59% of global wealth in 1860 but it never tried to conquer Europe. Mearsheimer claims that the English Channel made invasion too difficult. However, Britain's traditional strategy was to contain potential threats by manipulating either Germany or France. This did not stop Britain aggressively grabbing territory in parts of the world where it faced little or no opposition.Mearsheimer claims that Britain was too weak to stop the U.S. taking over its Caribbean colonies in the 19th century. Apparently, the U.S. resisted the temptation to invade because the British colonies kept slaves. He does not seem aware that Britain ended slavery long before the U.S. The main reason the US did not attack was Britain's navy. For much of the 19th century, the U.S. lacked the military strength to prevent European intervention in the New World. But since European meddling threatened British as well as American interests, the Monroe Doctrine was enforced by the Royal Navy. At the end of the 19th century, America could deploy two battleships to Britain’s forty-four.Mearsheimer describes the U.S. as the "poster child for offensive realism." Mearsheimer sets out a narrative to explain how American foreign policy developed over the centuries. He argues that it first dominated the Western Hemisphere before extending its reach to Asia and Europe. The invasion of Canada in 1812 and the Monroe Doctrine were part of a plan to dominate the Americas. Once that was achieved the U.S. stopped Japan and Germany dominating Asia and Europe in the 20th century. The U.S. continued to view the British Empire as a threat and Roosevelt set about dismantling it during WW2. Once WW2 was won, the Soviet Union became America’s new adversary and it maintained forces in Europe to check Soviet expansion, but also to prevent the Europeans from fighting each other.Mearsheimer argues that the U.S. is often in denial about its behavior and Americans are taught that the U.S. is altruistic and a force for good in the world. Mearsheimer states that “idealist rhetoric provided a proper mask for the brutal policies that underpinned the tremendous growth of American power.” In 1991 the U.S. became the world's only super-power and according to Mearsheimer, its main foreign policy objective was to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival. Following the difficult wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. is less certain of its global role. Mearsheimer claims that America's foreign policy elite is still largely made up of offensive realists, but these days they prefer to keep their views under wraps.Mearsheimer believes that the rise of China brings a new set of problems. America is facing its first serious economic competitor since it overtook Britain in the 19th century. He predicts that China will pose a threat to U.S. dominance in Asia. Mearsheimer is worried that if nationalists in China continue to pursue a policy of "Asia for the Asians" this will make future conflict inevitable.I found the book an enjoyable read but Mearsheimer has a surprisingly superficial grasp of world history. However, he does provide a helpful explanation of American foreign policy over the past 200 years. It is clear that the world will always be a dangerous place and America will continue to attract rivals trying to knock it off its pedestal.

The title of this review is the bottom line of The Tragedy of Great Power Politics by John Mearsheimer. The central point is not that hard to grasp that the structure of the international system makes conflict between great powers inevitable. But the way he goes about both setting up and giving evidence for his theory, may bend the reader in so many different directions that great power war or the fear of great power war becomes an absolute certainty.I hold a Master’s degree in Political Science and believes that while great power war may occur, it is the civil war type of conflicts and/or groups like Isis that deserve the world’s attention. Further, while I believe realism is an important paradigm in International Relations, the various liberal theories of International Relations and the newer third way theories also have a varying degree of explanatory power depending on the topic.Mearsheimer’s theory only holds the amount of currency the reader gives to the realist view of the world. For me, while it is plausible the world will end up this way, offensive realism is hard to stomach.

Gratitude and Trust: Six Affirmations That Will Change Your Life, by Tracey Jackson

Review

A New York Times Relationships Bestseller“This amazing book is about a revolutionary concept—recovery for the non-addict, for those who have longed for what their recovering friends have: a spiritual path, healthy company, and a little light to see by. Paul Williams and Tracey Jackson have great insight into our shared problems, solutions, humanity, craziness, and dreams. Plus, they will make you laugh, and give you hope, that recovery—starting over—is for everyone who has imagined a life of immediacy, honesty, and joy.”—Anne Lamott"Witty and modern."—Marc Spitz, VanityFair.com“Paul and Tracey have come up with a brilliant insight: recovery is not just for addicts. Why should our friends in recovery be the only ones to benefit from this time-tested wisdom? I’ll take some too, please. If you read this book, you’ll feel better by page 5 or thereabouts. And by page 51, you’ll be underlining passages and making notes in the margins - at least if you’re like me. It helped me change the way I think, eat, feel, even do my housework. My deep gratitude to Paul and Tracey for writing this book that will help millions.”—A.J. Jacobs, author of The Know-It-All “Self-help books can be so woo woo and annoying. Gratitude and Trust is the brilliant exception. This life-affirming book is bursting with wicked insights, bravado and wit.”—Simon Doonan, author of The Asylum “Reading Gratitude and Trust is like a long sit-down with a couple of very smart, funny, plain-spoken friends who have been through some hard times, and are here to help you avoid the same pitfalls. This is a generous and insightful book.”—Dani Shapiro, author of Slow Motion "The affirmations address spiritual and practical needs... [Gratitude and Trust] may come at a time when our increasingly obsessive and addictive culture revels in escapism in the form of video games, binge show watching, overating, and the many varieties of diversion on the Internet."—East Hampton Star“What a great gift – Christmas, Hanukah, holidays – to give Gratitude and Trust.”—Oprah Winfrey, Super Soul Sunday“Personal and powerful… An amazing book.”—Kathie Lee Gifford

Holy Mother...this book is "Spot On!" I absolutely love the two voices; addict and non-addict. Paul and Tracy have done a fantastic job of conveying the experience, strength and hope discussed in the rooms of recovery to those who wonder and imagine what is shared for that mysterious hour.It is never too early or too late in life to become the person you were meant to be and can be done as long as you are willing. Gracefully written...

Well, to begin with, this is not just a book for "official addicts". This is a book for anyone looking to improve the quality of their day-to-day existence here on this earth. I would venture to say that we are all addicted to something, and chances are, it's not working for ya. I read the book thru the first time and fought it. Was in a bit of denial that I needed to look more carefully at what this book had to offer. So, I took a deep breath and read it again. I instinctively knew, something was there. As the title says, there are six affirmations, and you'd be hard pressed, if you're honest with yourself, to not find one or two that apply.....I found two. The biggest, and hardest to come to terms with, was......"Something needs to change, and it's probably me." Holy sh*@. I need to change?? But what about when the card carrying a-hole comes at me. No, "Something needs to change, and it's probably me." I cannot begin to tell you how powerful this affirmation is, once you have the guts to look at it, carefully. It's incredibly freeing. The second one brought me an incredible sense of calmness, "I don't know how to do this but something inside me does." Yeah, I know. It's a good one.I LOVE the idea that what's good for fixing the addicts is good for fixing all of us! If you've read books written by former celebrity addicts you know that their stories can be extremely entertaining. So I thought Paul Williams would be the same. This was not the case, although he has a funny tidbit or two about being trashed, this is not a self indulgent celebrity tell all by any means. This book is a guide to changing your life, a guide for bringing more peace and calm into your everyday existence. It's for EVERYONE.I knew I had hit on the right book when Tracey Jackson starts talking about being the woman who needs to get the frosting rose off of the birthday cake, before anyone else gets it. It's addiction, whether it be to frosting, cocaine, or vodka. Frosting, it seems so benign. But it's a problem. No really, frosting is a problem, that's just the tip of the iceberg.I think many people are searching, for years, for that book that has the possibility of turning everything around, for me, this was that book. If you are struggling, please check out this book, one of the 6 affirmations will apply, I assure you. Paul and Tracey use their personal examples of what was not working in their lives and how these affirmations and 12 Step guidelines put them on the right track. Excellent guide, for everyone. Incredibly useful, helpful, insightful information that you can put into use, today.

A must read if you seriously would love to improve your life. Paul and Tracey explain complicated spiritual truths into easy to understand, ordinary language. And they do it through the eyes and perspectives of two opposites, one in recovery from addiction and the other who is not. Tracey saw many of her dear friends falling down, doing the worng things, losing everything due to alcoholism and/or addiction. Later she saw that they not only stopped those behaviors, but became BETTER people. That got her thinking. She wanted what they had, their new found joyous life, but she didn't have any tools for the "ordinary" person. Put the two of them together and you'll get an insight how ANYBODY can make the steps to freedom available to them, thanks to this new bestseller from @Paul WIlliams and @Tracey Jackson. You too can and will change your life to a life of happiness, love and peace by practicing gratitude and trust. Gratitude is love, Attitude is a way of being. The Attitude of Gratitude is a way of living in a state of love. But what about when the difficult times come. That's where the trust comes in. Trust is faith and strength that this too shall pass along with a way to living in grace.I've read so many spiritual books, but Graitutde and Trust, Six Affirmations That Will Change Your Life is by far the best of the best.Jeffrey Smith - Founder, TheAttitudeOfGratitude.com

These affirmations changed my life. For some time my anxieties have been running amuck and causing havoc. After reading this entertaining and yet instructional book, living in trust and gratitude has become a new norm. Hardly a few hours pass without running to one of the affirmations: something has got to change and it's probably me is a favorite. My relationships have become more fulfilling.

For people who want to improve their lives and become better people - for people who have any interest in 12 step programs, and how their foundational principles of humility and honesty can help them live their lives well. Nice to catch up with Paul as well.

This is an awesome book with a simple plan for transforming your life. The authors know what they're talking about and say it in easy to understand language. Don't miss this opportunity to clear the roadblocks in your life.

Can't say enough about this book. Paul and Tracey did a great job and were very elegant inpresenting some very powerful information. Gained new insights and reviewed parts of whatI am doing in my life and implemented some changes.I think they are very insightful and have come to a great place.I am grateful that they made this book happen.Thank you.

When in need of a life lift, read this book. Two people who have been there done that and came back positive better persons for the experience and paying it forward. I will read this book again when times get me down and I feel hopeless and lost. Thank you Tracey and Paul for your honesty.
