Had this book for my RC class. Very useful, Jack really shows well thought out steps for example problems. I'm a very visual person and so the way the problems were laid out and solved really helped me pass the class. And he goes straight to the point when it comes to the conceptual stuff.

Okay book. Loaded with examples which is great and the author sometimes talks about real life practice for design. There are typos in this edition though so be careful. Consult the website on the publishers site for errata. I would prefer the book by macgregor and wight. Except it does not have many examples. It is a good reference book and talks much more about the theory which is vital.

Author Jack Mccormac has written books on concrete, steel, and structural analysis. His best book is this one on reinforced concrete. It is a basic introductiuon for a first course in concrete design. It is loaded with clear examples, illustrations, and text that explains where he is going. You can't ask for a better book to teach yourself reinforced concrete design. Its a great review book for the PE exam. I highly recommend this book. The format should be copied by others for masonry, timber and steel design books - not too cumbersome but complete.

Design of Reinforced Concrete (Eighth Edition) by Jack C. McCormac and Russell H. Brown is an excellent book. I am a registered mechanical engineer and am trying to expand my understanding of reinforced concrete. What I really like about this book is how the authors use basic principles of mechanics of solids in the design of reinforced concrete. Rather than just trying to apply a set of derived equations tables and charts that I am not familiar with, I can use my understanding of basic mechanics of solids to figure out such things as the compressive stress and strain in the concrete, the stress and strain in the tensile steel reinforcement, the stress and strain in the compressive steel reinforcement,etc. while applying the current ACI 318-08 Code.

This is an okay book. It has a lot of examples which I like but as far as actually learning concrete behavior (really important) I would recommend the book by wight and macgregor.

Good book

...but it wasn't the book's fault. Personally, this course was the most difficult undergraduate course I took to get my Civil Engineering degree. I don't know if that was due to the professor, myself, the material, or a combination of all three. However, the book provides plenty of real world examples. I have not used it yet in the 'real world' to test its validity but that is because I work on the construction end rather than the design end.If this is required for your course, get it.If you need it to practice for the EIT or PE exams, I would recommend it.If you want this for a reference book, I think it would be a good addition.If you do not have any interest in designing reinforced concrete structures, don't get it.If you are an architect without an engineering background, this is not a good place to start. Here is the order I would recommend. Structural Analysis Geotech + Foundations Concrete + Steel

I read this before walking the Camino earlier this year. Loved the story and the reflections. I am not sure I learned a great deal about the Camino but the record of taking a Donkey for a long walk was nothing short of hilarious, heart warming and warning. Warning in the sense that it ought not be tried by anyone with anger issues. Loved the book and recommend it even if you never intend walking 500 miles across Spain.

Funny read. Tim Moore writes so that you feel you are right there with the characters.

I'm preparing to walk the Camino next year all going well. I came across this book and it is very entertaining. I laughed out loud on many an occasion. This is the story of man and donkey trekking the entire length of the Camino Frances in Spain. The donkey is the star of the show. Read it, you will laugh your socks off.

Having recently completed the Camino myself, I was in hysterics for a lot of the time. What an amazingly accurate and funny account of his experiences...

Well done Tim, another humerous trek across Spain. The donkey episodes are extremely funny, it was more of a hindrance than a help. Please write more of this variety.

Tim Moore writes with a delightful tone - good natured, warm-hearted and funny. This joyous tale of making a pilgrimage had me smiling from ear to ear, and eager to read more of his works.

Read Tim Moore's book whilst walking that camino and it was just what I needed - a real tonic for the journey

Ever since I read "Continental Drifter" I have been an avid fan of Moore's writting (and comic) talent. His ability to play to me sense of humour is uncanny and has left me looking like a deranged, giggling, teary eyed loon whilst reading in public. This book seems like a slight change of direction for him. The humour is still there but it is somewhat muted and is not bursting out of every sentence as with his previous outings. Instead the book has a much more reflective tone (for Tim Moore that is) and is perhaps due to the envronment and people he walked with. It is a great book, I read it for the humour I expected from this author, I got the humour I wanted but got much more. "Burn donkey Burn - Shinto inferno". Great.
