 This is the third Nice Little Town to focus on the cute abodes of mice. As with the second book, the houses in this book are more modern (compared to those in the first book.)The mouses are long and lean rather than round and cute. Some of them look like they are adolescents who are going through a growth spurt and their clothes are getting a little too short.Once again, these mice are having fun. They are going about their day and living life well. There is a design of one mouse taking a shower via a watering can spout (how inventive!) There is another with a class learning the importance of recognizing a C A T.Both my husband and I are enjoying these books and would be happy to see more of them. I have many coloring books by this artist and am always impressed by her range and by her skill.Just a note, this time the author did not include bonus pages from her other books. She did, however, include thumbnail images from those books, so you can still see the types of designs that are available.This is what I found in this coloring book:25 mouse and mouse house designs in the bookPrinted one side of the pagePaper is typical inexpensive quality by CreateSpace printing: white with black on the reverse side, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not merge into the binding.Glue BindingCreate Space Paper/Media QualityAlcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Even though the black on the reverse side of the page “covers” the bleed through” of various media, it does still bleed through. So, protect your work and your coloring book. I like to use a blotter when working in this type of book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.Coloring Pencils work fairly well with this publisher’s paper provided you don’t press extremely hard while coloring. I find that I can layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and blended easily with a pencil style blending stick. This is true of both oil and wax based pencils. I have also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.

I really like these coloring books....I bought Volume 2 along with Volume 6. I really like the 7x10 size better than the 8x11. The 8x11 has a black and thicker back and the 7x10 does not. These would be perfect if the 7x10 size would be combined with the black thicker backing on the page.

These books with the little mice are so freaking cute. They are so fun to do too. I like using markers and chalk cause they really pop with color.

I am a big fan of the Nice Little Town series. I own all of them! They are wonderful to color. I have had many happy hours with them. Sadly, the last two were a little skimpy on the new drawings and heavy on drawings from the artist's other books. I can't help feel a little cheated.

Nice Little Town 6 has to be the best one yet. It is full of the most adorable pictures. I must say as much as I enjoyed the others I have purchased, this is my favorite. The artist Tanya Bogema (Stolova) has out-done herself this time. I cannot wait to start coloring in this beautiful book. I would recommend to any coloring enthuasist.

Loved the many choices of snowy holiday pictures! The Little Town Books are so cute I ordered 2 others for after the holidays. I like a the different settings, inside a treehouse, a building with a family, shopping in town and the family.I have assorted old colored pencils which I had hoped to update with a new larger box of better pencils to shade and blend colors, but I think the pictures came out nice.

I love these books...1-6 and the 2nd Christmas book. (I missed the 1st) 1 have over 40 coloring books and they are my favorites.

This is one of my all time favorite collections/series of coloring books. This one is as good if not better than the others and I hope to see more in the future! Gorgeous book with lots of fun pages to color!

This is a lucid and measured attempt to put the `cost of college attendance' in an appropriate context. Eschewing the apocalyptic outcries from other commentators (including those in the popular press) they argue that the `unaffordability crisis' has been much exaggerated. In fact, college costs should not be seen in the context of, e.g., durable goods (whose prices have indeed diminished) but rather in the context of the products of service industries (lawyers, dentists) which require highly-educated practitioners. Seen in that light, college costs track very nicely with other service industry costs and should not be causes of alarm.The authors also deflate some of the popular outcries by pointing to the realities of actual pricing. Very few people pay the top-dollar charges of elite institutions and they can generally afford to do so without significant pain. Top institutions have deep financial-aid coffers and tuitions are discounted significantly. While the COFHE schools discourage merit-based support, e.g., their need-based support is generous; at the very top schools the support is largely (or even exclusively) in the form of grants rather than loans. Many distinguished private institutions and public institutions, generally, often offer merit-based support as well. Universities should not be thought of as Bentley dealerships, with prices beyond the means of all but the most wealthy consumers. On the contrary, they are much more like airplanes in which every passenger is paying a different price, in some cases a very modest price.Moreover, much more attention should be paid to cost, not price. The actual cost of education is generally far higher than even the top rack-rate tuition. This cost is reduced by private colleges' endowments and public colleges' state contributions.This is all true and it is all explained in great detail and with great transparency. While there are charts and graphs there are no mathematical formulae that would be opaque to the non-economist. In terms of economic analysis, this is as simple and straightforward as it gets.At the same time, from certain perspectives, college costs have risen dramatically and they are, indeed, troubling. The authors point out, for example, that living standards have generally risen in America and, with them, costs. The bare and simple dorms of yesteryear would not be to current students' taste. And, of course, the technological revolution will not be denied. The one-phone per floor dormitory of the past has been replaced by the wi-fi dorm of the present and the cafeterias offer greater choice and more healthy selections. This all comes at a price.Given this orientation, however, the authors are not at pains to look, in depth, at a number of contemporary costs. The endless nanny-state services of the modern college and university come at a considerable cost. They could be offered on an individual rather than mandatory basis. Students could receive some services (as all of the rest of us do) from the community beyond the college gates or, alternatively, the college could offer some of the services it provides to students to the surrounding community on a cost basis. Services, once provided, are difficult to withhold, particularly if other institutions offer them. However, while some institutions have made it a point to attract the affluent by erecting luxury dorms, some even with valet parking, I have seen very little evidence of institutions advertising that "your tuition dollar here goes largely to instruction, while our competitors invest no more than 25-35% on instruction--the putative purpose of your being here in the first place."In short, the funding models are nearly always based on imitation (what does our competition or what does Harvard provide?) rather than on distinctiveness. Except for St. John's in Maryland and Santa Fe the vast majority of institutions look alike. More often than not (= nearly always) their curricula look the same and favor "choice" over distinctive requirements. How many institutions (beyond the service academies, for example) can be said to offer a bona fide "signature" such that your attendance there changes you in a special, valuable, noticeable way?The authors also offer solutions to our current situation--grants to individual students (across the board) in lieu of the multiplicity of federal contributions and grants to individual students within states rather than state grants to individual institutions (in effect, the Colorado model or, in a sense, the Miami of Ohio model). These recommendations make a great deal of sense. They would encourage a wide swath of our fellow citizens to see college as being within reach, while now they often fail to understand the funding process until they are already deep in the FAFSA/application tangle (if they ever get there in the first place); states would liberate public institutions from politics and red tape and give them more autonomy but also make them compete for students' tuition dollars. Still, there is great resistance to these efforts. The authors explain why that resistance should be more rational and thoughtful and offered at a much lower volume.Finally, this is an important book, but one that gives a teeny bit more credit to universities than they deserve. A more searching critique would note, e.g., the ways in which schools raise room/board rates to avoid `tuition hike' stories in the press. (Room/board rates vary across the country and across public/privates very dramatically, even though the dorms may be being built by the same developers and the food largely coming from Marriott.) "Fees" have often been applied apart from tuition and actual costs are much less transparent than they could be. Student activity fees can be very, very high and they can fund services that few use and speakers, e.g., that many find abhorrent. Athletics pay for themselves almost nowhere. Why should these costs be imposed on those with no interest in them? Why should recreational facilities (particularly those plated with gold or platinum) be paid for through mandatory fees rather than on an individual membership basis, as in the real world? The bottom line is that the average age of students has risen considerably. A very high proportion of them work, live off campus and pursue what can only be considered `adult' lives. Nevertheless, the funding/service patterns seem to be modeled on the experience of some young, timid, unaware neophyte at a remote, private institution, who requires endless counseling, handholding, behavior modification therapy, and so on. Costs could be reduced considerably and institutions could do what they do best: teach and generate new knowledge.

First, for an overall review of the book I will refer you to the excellent review written in 2014, associated with a 3 star rating, by J.M. Alexander. The latter does an excellent job of covering every aspects of the authors’ analysis of the economic drivers of college costs and their recommendation on how to handle those through a more transparent and effective subsidy structure by shifting the Government funding away from the institutions and directly to the students and their families in the forms of yearly vouchers.I will not cover the same topics, as I would simply rehash what Alexander has already covered very well.However, I will drill down on a key issue of the authors’ analytical argument. They refer to Baumol’s cost disease theory to advance that college professors salaries have grown much faster than inflation. And, that they are one of the main drivers behind the overall staggering rise in college costs. By, data mining they uncover that a few other service professions such as lawyers and dentists have experienced nearly the same trends (way above inflation wage increases) as overall college costs. In the authors’ minds this confirms the validity of the Baumol’s cost disease as applied to college education.The authors further support their argument by indicating that splitting up college costs between administration, teaching, research, facilities, and other expenditures is either not feasible or arbitrary. Thus, given their framework college costs trends equal pretty much college professors cost trends. The authors make further assumptions that college costs trends equal college prices trends, but I won’t go into detail on this issue.However, while the authors were unable to isolate college professors wage trends, others have been able to do so. And, they have been able to compare those to college tuition trends that the authors identified is the component of college costs that has grown faster vs. room and board (see figure 7.3 on page 25). And, from 1978 to 2007 relying on data from the BLS and NCES these other social scientists uncovered that college tuition increased by a staggering annual compounded rate of 7.9%. Meanwhile, faculty salaries increased at barely above the overall inflation rate over that period at 4.5% per year vs. 4.1% for inflation. Others have extended this analysis through 2012 using similar data, and such trends pretty much continues.In other words, contrary to what the authors suggest college professors do not “benefit” from the Baumol cost disease. So, why have college professors not “benefitted” from the Baumol cost disease effect while other highly educated professionals like lawyers and dentists have (using the authors’ cherry-picked examples)? The answer is that there are far more PhDs in social sciences than there are available positions within universities. That is why much of these PhDs go begging and accept part-time jobs (because no full time jobs are available). Part-time faculty has risen from 30% of total faculty in 1975 to over 50% by 2011. And, many PhDs end up by default switching careers in often unrelated fields. In other words, the unfavorable supply-demand factors for college professors have entirely negated the Baumol’s cost disease effect experienced by other professionals in health care and legal services.The above facts are devastating to the authors’ arguments. It renders every single related graphs and tables (about cost and wage trends) within their book inaccurate and misleading.If you take out the flawed Baumol’s cost disease argument from this book, you are not left with much. Analysis of the funding sources of college costs, including declining public funding, and increased funding privatization to make up for the public funding is well known. Their proposal of shifting subsidies from universities to students would not resolve college costs. You are left with arguments that the authors thought they had rebutted, but given their inadequate analysis, they have not. In other words, universities are becoming increasingly expensive country clubs for pampered students that are overstaffed with expensive administrative staff benefitting from overly generous and unsustainable pension benefits. And, all of that has very little to do with pragmatic efficient education system.

This is one of the first books written on performance testing. The author was looking for a book on the subject, couldn't find any, and so decided to write one himself. It covers all things you will need to think about when you are asked to do a performance test. Such as deciding on what to test, how to generate load, how to script user activities, how the test environment measures up to the production environment, data you need to execute your test but also how to collect data from the servers and applications you are testing. It offers a solid base from where to start your testing activities.However the book feels outdated at times. For instance it mentions Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) as something futuristic. Luckily the author made a conscious effort to make the book technology independent. Because of this most of the content is still relevant today.

Nice to have for any performance test professionals and QA Manager as well as Project Manager to understand more deeply and clearly what / how / when test need to be done including process , timing , testing , analysis , environments , monitoring , data sets and more other steps involved to properly test application to meet performance requirements criteria and customer expectation

If you are novice writer and serious about writing short stories, this is THE book, you will keep nearby. As a novice writer, I have purchased many books on the subject of writing -- some good, some not so good. This is a good one. By the way, if you haven't discovered this fact yet, "Writer's Digest Books" will help you develop as a writer better than anything available. "Handbook of Short Story Writing" is a superb example of their excellent resources. It will not lead you by the hand, step by step, through the process of (for example) "Creating a Lovable Character", but that's not the format of a handbook. What it will do, is give you the processes to help you focus on "Creating a Lovable Character" with an article written by a well-known, SUCCESSFUL, author. If you like having a room full of PUBLISHED AUTHORS for advice, purchase this book! I paid only ONE PENNY here, for my copy. The shipping fee was less than the gas it would have taken to drive to the bookstore.

Arrived on time and in good shape. Great reference for high schoolers and undergrads. I would use it when teaching a writing class. Clear and accurate.

I plowed through this book in less than an hour, quickly realizing it was mostly fluff with little relevance to estate planning. Except for some useful pointers on the psychology of beneficiaries, the importance of prenups, and strategies for letting younger family members make riskier investments, there simply isn't much substance.

Good definition of what a legacy really it - so much more than money.

Practically everyone engaged in the practice has been influenced by the thoughtful writing of Jay Hughes, and has read his book on family wealth. So what has been done to change or improve it in this timely 20 year revision. First of all, I would disagree that this is a revision of Jay's original book. In the original we are treated to Jay's story, and how his education from his many clients led to his ideas about family as the core of what matters to a wealthy family. His insights re deep and powerful, but it was sometimes hard for a family to go from his book to designing their own plan. This new book is totally different. It is organized into a series of themes that look at family wealth through different lenses. Beginning with an overview if Jay's ideas about the different types of non-financial capital, the book then looks at the challenges faced by families in using their wealth. In each situation Jay and his co-authors look at how the situation can be approached by the family as a personal and relationship and values-based challenge between people who care about each other, rather than as a legal/financial transaction. More so than the original, Complete Family Wealth is a clear, useful guide both for families, and for the professionals who advise them.

I've use this book a lot and I have it up here with a bunch of other books that I use for him lettering and also creative lettering and lots of stuff so I definitely recommend it for sure. It's definitely more of a workbook look I didn't pay attention to it even says a creative workbook so if you're looking for more examples then this wouldn't be the book for you but if you're looking for a workbook then this would be a good book for you.

Hand lettering made a big comeback recently in the design world and is now so ubiquitous that I dare say that it's bordering on being overused. Still, I believe there is always room for good hand lettering and that every good designer/illustrator should also be able to draw letterforms. This book os for anyone who wants to learn how or for experienced letterers to find new ways to practice their skills.The first thing you should know is that nobody becomes good at lettering without hours and hours of practice and this book is designed to get you going on those hours of practice in fun ways. Take note of the subtitle, "A Creative Workbook" because it is very much that. The book contains four general sections, History and Fundamentals, Process, Creative Confidence and Exploration, but the main focus throughout is on getting out your pen and pencil and getting to it. There are tons of very creative prompts to get you exploring and trying out different things rather than just copying existing typefaces.There are also many examples of various lettering styles but do not expect to find complete alphabets here to copy from. Instead you will be challenged to learn the various basic elements and then play with those creatively to come up with your own letterforms. For me, this was just what I needed and I can see myself pulling this thing out and working through a few pages anytime I'm bored or have a few minutes to spare.

I wouldn't call this book instructive. It's mainly prompts to give you ideas. It just wasn't what I was expecting I guess.

I was looking for a lesson book or tutorial for beginners on how to hand letter, but was disappointed to find that it seems you already need to know how to hand letter to use this book. The "...For Everyone" part of the title is misleading because it makes the book sound like a guide. If you want to learn how to actually hand letter, do not buy this book. This is a book of questions/writing prompts for practicing the hand lettering skills (that you already have). If you already know how, you can use this book for samples, examples, and ideas.

I like this book, but I'm not a big fan of the guided pages that guide you on what to draw or write. I wish it had more blank pages without text, but it's still fun and creative to use.

Not actually very helpful for beginners. Does not have enough visual tracing/practice instruction space.

i like the idea of this book but as I'm working through the projects I'm finding it difficult to get started due to the first few activities having little to do with actually lettering. Lots of guidance though, not just blank pages. recommend.

Got this for my daughter for her birthday. When I got it, I had to see every page myself. She loved it and I have to say the handlettering she has done is pretty good.

Amazon Vine was low in historical fiction ARCs for me to choose from so I wandered over to the Christian book category. Here it was, a Sarah Ladd HR. I've read Ladd's books before. I felt neutral about them so I thought to give this one a try.What do we have here? Well, about a gazillion overused tropes and nothing unusual except for the hero's plan to make his estate solvent with the development of an apple orchard and purchase of an apple press. That was new to me. And that also made for a lovely book cover, with apple trees in bloom and a pretty woman in a flowing gauzy dress.As for the story: (1) This takes place in Cornwall. There are smugglers. What a surprise. (2) There is a lovely widow with a past who has fled Cornwall and that past to become governess to three motherless children, who also become fatherless at the beginning of the story. (3) Governess and children are transplanted to Cornwall to live at Penwythe Hall with the deceased father's younger brother, whom the late father named as guardian in spite of the fact that the two brothers had been estranged. (4) This brother must adjust to having nieces and nephews running around and the children must adjust to their new life and the loss of their father. (5) Governess heroine must confront her old life and what haunts her about it. (6) Governess and children's uncle must fall in love.There's some mystery, a few bad guys, some human interest and relationship issues, some romance. None of it is very interesting. The characters have very little personality, the mystery is not compelling, and the romance is flat and lacking chemistry. What is it with Christian-genre romances? The passionless relationships in them makes me wonder how they manage to produce any offspring. Now, I don't mean these books lack sex scenes. I can easily do without that. I just want a little bit of sexual chemistry between H and h, so that I know they will enjoy the closed-door bedroom activity that I will not be privy to.This was relatively well written (grammar, spelling, etc.) but underdeveloped, with an unimaginative plot and boring characters. All in all, I found the reading to be dull as ditchwater.

More than a romance, this tale is true to the times in which the story takes place. I love a good story, and especially the Regency Era. There is something so romantic and compelling about the times, the people and the grandeur of the lifestyle that draws one in. That said, I must say this story doesn't disappoint.The heroine is a young widow with a shadow hanging over her past, who has taken a position as governess and moved far from her home to avoid the rumors and cruelty of her neighbors. The hero, is a handsome Lord of the Manor who has inherited his nieces and nephews, along with their governess on the death of his estranged brother.The story entails not only the burgeoning attraction between the two adults, but the trials and tribulations of the children who are adjusting to the loss of their parent. That, coupled with the facts of the dislike between the brothers complicates the situation, making it difficult to manage a peaceful household.

The Governess of Penwythe Hall is an even-keeled, easy read with a little romance and some suspense and mystery to help the pacing along. Cordelia (Delia) is a governess that has a tragic past. She is recently widowed, having lost a child soon before her husband. She is a doting mother-figure to her charges who soon lose their father and are uprooted to live with their unknown uncle, Jac at Penwythe Hall. The mystery aspect focuses around Delia’s past and her sketchy relationship with her in-laws.The romance is pretty non-existent at times, it feels like more of an insta-love situation. The mystery was pretty obvious to figure out. So overall, while it was a quick read, it followed a familiar storyline and a predictable plot. I do enjoy Ms. Ladd’s sweet, clean, regency-esque tales and would not hesitate to recommend her. This one just wasn’t as good as some of her other books.

I have had a crazy busy couple of weeks and I appreciated this slow paced calm book. I read it slowly and liked it for the most part. It moved slow and the romance was even slower. The characters were good and had a good story to push them along. The governess story always tugs at my heart, I guess it's my love of Jane Eyer. The end was a bit rushed but I felt repetitive in there feelings. Authors really only need to tell us once and sometimes never, showing us how a character feels is always so much better.
