This is the last book in the EXTINCTION NZ trilogy that takes place in New Zealand and is based on the EXTINCTION CYCLE series by author Nicholas Sansbury Smith. The prior two - THE RULE OF THREE and THE FOURTH PHASE - were both five star tales but this one is even better. There is non-stop action, kick ass characters, and gallons of blood, guts and gore.Jack and Dee Gee continue to hold integral parts in the ongoing battles against the multitudes of Variants and even mutated Variants. And they gather other characters around to become a close-knit fighting force.I also have enjoyed all of the different sections featuring the Maori people, the indigenous population of New Zealand.I highly recommend this entire trilogy and, if you haven't read it yet, you should get to reading the EXTINCTION CYCLE series. If action books, thrillers, and post-apocalyptic tales along with great writing expertise are something you look for in your books, don't miss out on these gems.I received this Advanced Reading Copy from Great Wave Books in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review. But I have also pre-ordered the book because I want to support this author.

If you haven't read Extinction NZ Books 1 &2, The Rule of Three & The Fourth Phase, then you will probably find some spoilers in this review. I strongly advise you to quit reading this review and start reading The Rule of Three and The Fourth Phase. In those books you will find the beginnings of the Hemorrhage Virus in New Zealand and you'll get to meet the Gee family, Jack and Diane ('Dee'), for the first time. Witness their struggles against the Variants and their human collaborators and the people they meet and help along their journeys. You won't regret reading these two books!SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!Jack Gee and the young boy he rescued from the Trophy King's lair, George, and Jack's wife Dee and the teen boy she called Boss were formally members of The Renegades. Captain Ben Johns had formed the unit, adding Staff Sergeant Colin Simpson, Lance Corporal Yolanda Caro, Gunner Robert Chang and Max, their Variant sniffing Heading dog. The Renegades were tasked with aiding in Operation Utu to take back New Zealand from the Variants and their new Alpha - Abezi, a huge winged Variant with plans for dominating their food source - humans. As amazing as this storyline is told, the characters are truly detailed and fleshed warmly and dear as your favorite neighbours. I've fallen in love with Jack and Diane and want to adopt Boss and George. Seriously, the cast is terrific and tells their tale as native New Zealanders. The spirit and character of the Maori is richly included.Worked into the fabric of the narrative are the Five Pillars of the Warrior - Righteousness, Courage, Compassion, Respect and Loyalty. I think the new character introduced as 'Pig' learned or displayed each of those traits in his journey to himself. But, you're going to have to find out for yourself! I can highly recommend this book and this series. I'm also going to look forward to the next book from Adrian!

An excellent and fitting end to this trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and in particular the characters. Jack, a geeky guy but has fierce determination to keep his loved ones safe. Dee is badass and wants to survive. Boss, what a laugh. Yalonda the sniper was just the right amount of cheek and marksmanship.I also loved the Maori warriors. The scene with the Haka! I had shivers.Excellent story. Highly recommend it. I'd love to see more.

Wow! A great ending to the trilogy! The book had me reading til I reached the end, barely taking a break! The story has Pig remembering the Five Pillars but not who he is... but following the Five Pillars are extremely important to him as he tries to set people free. I loved how he slowly remembered who he was and learned to be proud of his accomplishments of great courage. There were other memorable characters as well, but he was the one who stuck with me.Adrian Smith has done an excellent job of writing an original story meant to carry on the Extinction Cycle series. I loved this story the best of the three simply because the characters were so human. He offers hope in the world.Again, he kept true to the main feel of Extinction Cycle yet has his own voice in taking us to the fight in New Zealand.I can't wait to read more from this talented writer!

In this last Extinction Cycle New Zealand story, the remaining soldiers, along with fierce Maori warriors, are taking back New Zealand. However, the Variants and their human collaborators aren’t going down without a brutal fight. This story is full of suspense and marvelously different than the post-apocalyptic fare I normally read. Highly recommended.

Nicholas does a much better series. This author is too sappy as if in the middle of battling raging variants, one would have time to kiss his wife.I read this in one evening. It’s full of stories of the ancestors of the Maori and the battles waged between them and the white man. But for these battles, they fought like comrades. Humans die horrible deaths, collaborators trap survivors, the variants have mutated mysteriously. Wonder if we’ll ever learn that phenomenon. Further explanations needed to have been provided.

Adrian Smith brought Nicholas Sansbury Smith’s (NSS) post apocalyptic world to life in New Zealand! What a great ending to a great trilogy! You follow the characters throughout the trilogy and the more you learn about them, the more they come to life. You root for them and are saddened as the events unfold. The story brings the main characters to literally the end of the world and then links the timeline and events of NSS’s world to bring the end of the trilogy to a clean end. Can’t wait to see what Adrian writes next!

This final book in the trilogy is as amazing and awesome as the first 2 were. Mr. Adrian Smith doesn't miss a beat in his writing at all. I'm looking forward to more great works by this author. Visit NZ once again as we follow this story to its exciting conclusion. Get yours today!
